Do'S AND Dont's For Your Skin !

skin is fed with pure essential oils, which is naturally hydrating and rich in nutrients. It also penetrates the skin and rejuvenates the cells. Massage of skin with essential oils helps increase the blood circulation or rather improve the blood circulation. It also strengthens the connective tissues and hence reduces or delays wrinkle formation.
Since skin has many functions and is related with the health and beauty of an individual, proper care must be taken for it. It should be kept clean with frequent cleaning and bathing. Avoid use of tobacco and other related harmful substances due to which the waste material has to be excreted by the skin.
There are 3 primary layers in the skin.
  1. Hypodermis is the deepest layer of the skin where there is no effect of cosmetics.
  2. Dermis is layer where collagen and elastin is produced which maintains the firmness of the skin. Dermis is the middle layer of the skin.
  3. Epidermis is the layer, which should be looked after carefully as this is the outermost layer of the skin prone to infections. All cosmetic products act on this layer.
Procedures to be followed for great skin:
  1. Washing and Cleansing
  2. Toning
  3. Moisturizing
  4. Massaging
DO's:
  1. Wash your skin twice daily with a soft herbal cleanser and lukewarm water
  2. Nourish and moisturize your skin daily with essential oils suitable for your skin type.
  3. Avoid excessive exposure to sun, cold weather, snow, salt, and water.
  4. Do facial exercise 1-2 times per day.
  5. Bright color fruits are beneficial for skin. Add apples, oranges, carrot, and tomatoes in your daily diet for a glowing skin.
  6. Steam bath 2 - 3 times a month is beneficial for your skin as it deep-cleanses the pores and stimulates blood circulation.
  7. Caress your face with steam made out of boiling water with 2-3 drops of essential oil in it. (sandalwood oil is one of the best essential oil for this purpose)
DONT's:
  1. Avoid very oily creams. They clog pores and causes puffiness.
  2. Avoid using harsh detergents or soap on the face.
  3. Avoid chemical make-up removers and heavy eye creams. For removing eye make-up, use cotton dipped in plain vegetable oil.
  4. Avoid using harsh scrubs, pumice stones, or chemical powders.

Body wax - Homemade wax for a divinely smooth skin

They paid much attention to beauty and body appearance, and this was a perfect blend of cosmetics and hygiene.
The tradition continued into ancient Greece but declined in the mid 10th century. The attention we pay to waxing and hair removal still remains strong and present as a major part of our beautifying routine.
This body wax recipe is effective and pretty simple. After that, you can find recipes that soothe the skin and prevent any possible skin irritation and ingrown hair.
The name body wax is right, this recipe can be used as a leg and eyebrow wax, upper lip wax. You could also use it on your arms.
    Ingredients
    7oz of honey
    7oz of sugar
Freshly squeezed juice of 1/2 lemon

    You will also need:

a pan and tablespoon, preferably wooden spoon and
cloth strips which you can make out of an old shirt (cotton) or simply buy them at the pharmacy store.

    Preparation:
    • Start out by caramelizing sugar. Set the temperature on medium high.
    • Stir sugar until it starts bubbling.
    • The color you are looking for is gold, that will indicate the sugar is ready and melted.
    • Proceed by adding honey and lemon juice, stirring the whole time.
    • When the mix is melted, drop the mass on a clean cotton towel.
    • Knead the mass until it becomes golden yellow.

This is where it becomes tricky. This body wax mix tends to harden quickly and you need to do something to keep it soft so you can mold it and apply on the skin. Unless you don't mind, you could use some saliva. It has enzymes that will break the honey and sugar and keep it moist and soft. Another option, is to prepare a small bowl and fill it up with hot water. Don't use it too hot, you might burn yourself, only hot enough so that you can use it. Then....

  • Spread the mix on your legs, place the cotton strip over it (make sure it adheres), count to 3 and pull!

  • Always pull in the opposite direction of hair growth. This way, you will pull out the hair together with its root, which is the point of waxing.

  • Use short strokes until you get used to doing it, then you can start using long strokes.

  • To wash off the stickiness, simply rinse your legs with warm water.

  • Some women get so good in doing this, that they actually make strips out of this mass and have no need to use the cotton strips. For beginners, follow the above instructions.
If you prefer to make the mix so it is more liquid and that you can spread using a wooden stick, add more water while it is still melting. Make sure that the consistency is not too thick nor too liquid, it should be similar to pancake batter :)
As I mentioned, it might take you some time to get a hold of it, and it might happen that the mix hardens while you are still waxing. No problem! Either dip your fingers in hot water you already prepared and mold it until it softens, or return it to the stove and cook until it melts again.

    Wax removal

This recipe for homemade wax hair removal may leave a sticky residue. Wax is not dissolved by water only, so you need to add something to it in order to remove it.Prepare this:

    • Boil 1 l of water (you can use distilled) and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda in it.
    • Rinse the legs off using a soft cloth.

The next day, when the possibility of irritation has decreased and your skin is smooth, prepare a mix that will certainly prevent ingrown hair.
    Ingredients
    1 teaspoon of glycerin
    1 teaspoon of corn flour
    100 ml of distilled water
5 drops of essential oil of lavender.

Blend the ingredients and apply on the skin while gently massaging the skin.
Glycerin is a natural substance that attracts moisture and keeps it locked in. For skin care, this means that it is an excellent way to moisturize the skin. It is mostly used in soap preparation and in production of lip balms as it creates a barrier that stops environmental conditions from affecting the skin.
Lavender has a wonderfully calming effect, on both the body and mind. It leaves the skin soft and smooth, all the while giving out its soothing, irritation preventing effect.

How to Get a Flawless Complexion

The best way to get shiny hair that's not greasy is to first start by creating a healthy base, and the same principle rings true for skin. And while it may be tempting to pile on makeup to create the illusion of a better complexion, stop right there. To see how you can enhance your natural glow with tips from Lavette Slater, a licensed makeup artist and key hairstylist for The View, just read more.
    • The basics: "Using makeup with SPF is always a must," says Slater. For warm months, she recommends using a tinted moisturizer that's formulated with SPF. Moisturize your skin regularly and remove your makeup properly, too.
    • Get pampered: If it's possible and within your budget, consider getting a facial every four weeks, addressing any concerns with your esthetician.
    • Avoid: "If you are prone to breakouts when you eat certain foods and carbonated sodas, stay away from them," Slater explains. The same philosophy applies to skin care: if it's not getting the job done, move on to something else.
    • A little goes a long way: "Sometimes just a bit of concealer and pressed powder can work wonders," Slater advises. Creamy liquid makeup is great when you use just a bit. Pair with a dusting of loose or pressed powder to set.

    Top 10 Acne Tips Revealed

The right sunscreen for your skin type

People today have wrong perceptions regarding the protective power of sunscreen and this confidence can prove to be dangerous if the label is not understood at the right time. People tend to burn their skins due to their careless attitude by forgetting to reapply thesunscreen as recommended for instance right after swimming on their exposed parts. Finding just the correct sunscreen is important because they contain ingredients which can cause allergies.
Knowing the meaning of fancy words can ease the selection of sunscreen for many consumers.

    • Know key points to use sunscreen

The first step is to jot down all the key concerns which one might have regarding the usage of sunscreen. It may include things such as potential allergens which can cause reactions of skin thus resulting in irritations or redness; duration of time till when the sunscreenwill remain effective;  and whether the same label is suitable for all the age groups or not. Babies are an exception; therefore, special notice should be taken if mothers are applying sunscreen to their bodies.

    • Read the label of the sunscreen

The next step should be to read the label of the sunscreen lying in your bathroom cabinet and analyze if you are already familiar with any ingredient mentioned on it. Sun Protection Factor (SPF) tells how long it can protect you from the UVB rays. Thus a higher level protects for longer. However, a higher SPF can cause sunburns and premature skin aging too. Zinc oxide and titanium are suitable for sensitive skins as they reflect UV light. If the label states that it protects from UVA and UVB rays, then this combination has chemical blocks. There are questions about its safety because high usage can penetrate in skin augmenting photo carcinogenic properties.

    • Broad spectrum sunscreens

Broad spectrum is a term referring to adequate quantity of avobenzene, titanium oxide or zinc oxide for protection againstUVA. Few broad spectrums are better off than the others as some sunscreens are unable to block UVAs appropriately. Many sunscreens carry the title PABA which is included less nowadays as it has been causing rash reactions to many people. Also skin cancer is a typical hazard caused by applying it.

    • Water resistant sunscreens

Water resistant sunscreens are good in protecting skins while swimming or doing beach activities. Extracts and scents make sunscreens more edible so it should not be in children’s reach. Child screen is specially made considering theirskin type. Lastly, expiry date should be paid greatest attention to.

    • Make an informed choice

Intelligent consumers should make an informed choice. Rather safe tips while buying sunscreen include the avoidance of scented sunscreen. Other alternatives include wearing of broad rim hats, including long-sleeves in clothing and staying indoors at the peak hours of sunshine. Therefore, we should practise secure sun protection.

Skin Care Ingredients that Cause Acne

f you’re like most people who suffer from acne, you probably look for the term “non-comedogenic” when shopping for skincare products. But in many cases, this isn’t enough, as there are many other acne-causing ingredients lurking in your skincare products that can lead to breakouts. Although it takes about eight weeks for a blemish to rear its head (literally), certain ingredients can prompt a pimple within hours by irritating the hair follicle.
Since you’re prone to pimples, you probably keep an eye out for labels that say “oil-free,” but not all oils cause acne.  For example, tea tree oil can treat acne by killing bacteria on the skin. But perhaps the worst oil of all for those with acne is coconut oil, and although it smells heavenly, it can wreak havoc on your skin.
Isopropyl myristate (often used to make creams and lotions feel good on the skin) and myristyl myristate are also big no-nos for blemish-prone skin. They are often inhair products. And to be on the safe side, avoid lanolin (and its derivatives) as well. Myristyl lactate is another common ingredient in moisturizers and sunscreens, and you should keep an eye out for it as well.
There are other ingredients to watch out for, so have this list handy when checking the labels on the products you have, or when you’re shopping for new ones. Now this is only the beginning, so for a full list of acne-causing ingredients to avoid, click here.
So now you’re probably wondering what you can use. Keeping your skin clear is easier than you think. First of all, wash twice a day (no more!) with a salicylic acidcleanser. You can find many inexpensive options at the drugstore from Neutrogena and Clean & Clear. Then find an oil-free moisturizer with SPF 30 (you don’t have to spend a lot of money on this either), such as Purpose Dual Treatment Moisturizer with SPF 15 or 30. You can also treat your skin to bacteria-busting blue light at home with the Tria Skin Clarifying System. Lastly, talk to your dermatologist about a prescription retinoid. Not only does is keep pores clear and blemishes at bay, it helps with lines and wrinkles as well!

The 10 Biggest Skin Mistakes You Can Make

      1. Using tanning beds. In case you haven’t heard, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified tanning beds as a known carcinogen (i.e. cancer-causer). And if you want to accelerate the formation of wrinkles and/or get skin cancer and unsightly brown spots, using a tanning bed is the best way to do it.
      2. Not using SPF daily. One unpublished study by Unilever showed that using just SPF 5 every day for five years prevented significant sun damage. Do yourself and your skin a favor and use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15. You’re moisturizing anyway, right? Most people do not apply enough sunscreen, so using an SPF of 15 should give you at least an SPF of 5.
      3. Getting too much sun. 10 to 15 minutes of unprotected sun a few times a week can help your body get its vitamin D fix, but if you’re sitting outside at Starbucks for an hour a day without sunscreen, your skin will remind you years from now.
      4. Using the wrong cleanser. If dryness is an issue, a foaming cleanser will only make matters worse. Two of the best cleansers for dry skin are Estée Lauder Soft Clean Tender Crème Cleanser and CeraVe hydrating cleanser. Oily types beware! A cleanser that’s too rich can send oily skins’ sebaceous glands into overdrive. The best cleanser for oily skin is a foaming cleanser such as Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Gel. Combination skin types will like Paula’s Choice Hydralight One Step Facial Cleanser. If you do not know whether your skin is oily or dry, take the free quiz at www.SkinTypeSolutions.com. (Lists of cleansers that are best for each skin type can also be found in my bestselling book, The Skin Type Solution.)
      5. Not using a retinoid. I am often asked “What is the best night cream to prevent aging?” In my opinion, the family of vitamin A creams known as retinoids are the best night creams and I believe that everyone over the age of 20 should be using aretinoid at night. This may help prevent aging and will smooth wrinkles you already have along with preventing acne and exfoliating the skin.
      6. Over-exfoliating. How do you know how much to exfoliate? The answer is… It depends on your Baumann Skin Type. If your skin is dry, too much exfoliation strips lipids from the skin, and sensitive types can experience even more inflammation. Exfoliation is best for oily, resistant types.
      7. Using daytime moisturizer if you have oily skin. If you’re on the oily side, skip the moisturizer and go straight to the sunscreen. Sunscreens have hydrating ingredients and very oily types make their own fatty acids, so they don’t need a moisturizer. (If you have dry spots, apply moisturizer only to those areas.) Everyone’s skin feels tight after cleansing, since it takes about 30 minutes for oil glands to replenish the skin—so see how your skin feels after 45 minutes and then you’ll know if you need moisturizer. Even better, take the quiz atSkinTypeSolutions.com to determine if your skin is oily.
      8. Paying too much for skincare. Are expensive skincare products better? You don’t always get what you pay for. Check out this article to learn when to save and when to splurge on skin care products.
      9. Not knowing your skin type. If you don’t know your Baumann Skin Type, you’re probably using the wrong products. Using the right ingredients can make a significant difference in the appearance of your skin.
      10. Not getting a full-body skin exam every year. Think of this as a birthday present for your birthday suit—especially if you’ve had two or more bad sunburns in your lifetime. Find a dermatologist at www.aad.org.

10 Home Remedies for Dry Hair

Oily hair is a drag, but dry hair is no picnic, either. Dry hair is dull hair, and it looks the same after you wash it as it did before. Everyone has bad hair days, but with dry hair you may have those days more often than not.
Along with dry hair, you may also have a dandruff problem. Although it's more often a condition associated with oily hair, people with dry hair get dandruff, too. Common dandruff is simply a layer of skin shedding from your scalp. When the skin cells get trapped on your scalp by your hair and clump together, you have dandruff. And dandruff can make your hair look dull.
Dry hair can result from external factors, such as exposure to harsh chemicals, or from internal causes, such as an illness. These are the primary external factors for those lackluster locks:

      • Harsh shampoo
      • Shampooing too often
      • Hair dye
      • Hair perms
      • Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs
      • Overuse of the blow dryer or curling iron
      • Too much exposure to sun and wind
      • High mineral content in local water supplies
External factors are easy to remedy. You just need to be careful about how you treat your hair, cutting back on activities that cause it to become dry. Switch products. Wear a cap when swimming. Cover your head when you're outside in the sun for prolonged periods. And use the kitchen cures in this profile.
Internal factors, though, don't have quite such a quick fix. Internal factors that cause dry hair include:
      • Cancer treatment
      • Certain medications
      • Nutritional deficiency
      • Prolonged illness
Before you start to panic, go to the next page and read all the simple home remedies for dry hair. Chances are you'll find something that will put the luster back in your locks.
